Right to Work Checks on Airlocum - What Locums and Practices Need to Know

Yes - Airlocum carries out UK right to work checks. UK right to work rules cover self-employed locums, and Airlocum verifies every locum's right to work before they can be made bookable on the platform. All new locums are checked as part of onboarding, and we are rolling verification out across our existing locum pool, starting with our most active nurses.

How the check works

British and Irish passport holders: we send you a link to complete a digital identity check through TrustID, a Home Office certified identity service provider. It takes about 2 minutes on your phone.

All other nationalities: generate a share code at gov.uk/prove-right-to-work and send it to us via live chat together with your date of birth. We then verify your right to work through the Home Office checking service.

Every check is reviewed by a member of the Airlocum team before a locum is marked as verified - this step is never automated. Where a locum's permission to work is time-limited, we record the expiry date and re-check before it runs out.

What this means for practices

Right to work verification sits alongside our existing checks: live GDC registration monitoring with automatic re-checks every 28 days, Enhanced DBS, indemnity insurance and hepatitis B immunisation evidence. A locum's documentation is visible on their profile, and you can ask us via live chat to confirm any locum's verification status.
