Why Does Airlocum Check Right to Work?
Two reasons: it is the law, and it is what lets practices confirm you in minutes.
It is a legal requirement
Under UK immigration law, anyone engaging a worker must verify that person is legally entitled to work in the UK, and these rules have covered self-employed locums since 1 October 2026. Getting it wrong carries civil penalties of up to £60,000 per worker, so without a verified check every practice you work at would need to run their own before your first shift.
One check covers every practice on Airlocum
By verifying your right to work once at Airlocum, you never have to send documents to individual practices again. Your verified status sits on your profile alongside your live GDC registration monitoring, Enhanced DBS, indemnity insurance and hepatitis B evidence - the full compliance picture a practice needs before confirming a booking.
It is why you get booked faster
Practices on Airlocum confirm locums in minutes. That speed only works because the checking is already done - a practice manager can see a fully verified profile and say yes on the spot. Your right to work check is part of what makes you instantly bookable.
Will I be asked again?
It is a one-time check for most locums. If your permission to work is time-limited, we record the expiry date and re-check with you before it runs out - we will contact you in good time, so there is nothing to track yourself.
How to complete your check
The process takes a couple of minutes and is explained step by step in Right to Work Checks on Airlocum. British and Irish passport holders complete a digital identity check through TrustID; all other nationalities send us a share code from gov.uk/prove-right-to-work via live chat. Every check is reviewed by a member of the Airlocum team before you are marked verified.
